His Excellency Mr. Kofi Annan

Secretary General

United Nations

New York, New York

United States

Dear Mr. Secretary General,

Israel and United States of America are both members of the United Nations and as such are obliged, like other members of the UN, to abide by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nation Charter and to implement the UN Security Councils’ resolutions.  The government of Israel, however, continuously discards not only UN resolutions, but also the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other UN covenants.  Of grave concern is their refusal to withdraw from occupied Palestinian land and recognize the rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state.

Furthermore, in their ongoing military attack on the residents of the Gaza Strip and other parts of Palestine, the Israeli government has committed what amounts to acts of genocide against the Palestinian people.  Unfortunately, the US government, by abusing its veto in the UN Security Council, is providing support for these crimes.

We strongly condemn these atrocities against defenseless Palestinian children, women and men in Gaza and elsewhere.  We also protest US behavior in UN Security Council in blocking that body from promoting peace and justice with regard to this ongoing travesty.

We urge you to use all of the power of your office to compel the government of Israel to stop the afore-mentioned atrocities and abide by UN resolutions.

Sincerely,

Ebrahim Yazdi
